Q. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
A. Hourly pricing is often determined by the complexity of a case. Some cases may require processing legal documents or merely settling a matter with opposing counsel. Also, if a client is well organized and easily directed, a lower hourly rate can be warranted. If a case, however, necessitates litigating complex legal issues, then a higher hourly rate may be necessary. I will take some cases on a contingency basis. These include cases in which payment is made at the end of a case by a third party payor, e.g. personal injury payments by an insurance company or an ex-employee suing his employer for discrimination. These are just examples. If you wish for me to consider taking your case on contingency, just let me know. I will offer some cases to be paid as a flat rate. These are cases in which a known outcome is probable and extended litigation is not, e.g. fighting a speeding ticket or filing a trademark. The benefit to the client is that the total amount of the cost of their project is known upfront and will not increase. If you would like me to consider a flat fee, please let me know.
Q. What is your typical process for working with a new customer? A. I offer a complimentary consultation so i can gauge the client's needs and goals, understand the strengths and weaknesses of the case, and work out a litigation plan with the client; whether it be settlement, a full lawsuit, or somewhere in between. i make myself available to clients by cell phone.
Q. What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
A. Law school, of course. Before that, i studied molecular biology as an undergrad. Immediately after graduating, i stayed for a masters in the same field. Although i am not a biologist any longer, the years of focused attention certainly help me in my legal projects.
Q. What types of customers have you worked with? A. I enjoy working with clients from every background. I believe it to be an universal standard that when a person has a pressing legal matter, it can disrupt their entire life.
Q. What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
A. Find an attorney you trust and will be honest with you. Hiring an attorney that will just tell you what you want to hear is ultimately detrimental, if not fatal, to your case. Choosing an attorney based upon the make of their car or their suit is also a mistake. Opposing counsel and judges will gauge your credibility based upon who you hire to represent you. Q. What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
A. I think clients should determine what specific goals they wish their attorney to accomplish on their behalf. It's up to the attorney to use his or her legal experience, knowledge, and skill to accomplish that task. It is, however, much easier to accomplish a task that is well defined by the client.
